Tasty autumn in Milan

All of a sudden the summer came to an end. After more than three months of sun, hardly any rain (which one very hot days was regretted) and lots of ice cream. Temperatures dropped and the streets got wet. But luckily there is a beautiful autumn to come and many reasons to come to Milan and enjoy the city.

 

Last week I kicked-off the second part of the Old Milano Food Tour season, hosting Saskia from the Dutch blog Ciao Tutti (she really knows all about Italy!) and her friend An, the owner of a beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Solferino near Lake Garda. It was fun to go back into the streets of lovely Brera, meet the local shop owners that each time are so kind to welcome us and dedicate a few minutes to explain about their shop and the delicious (Milanese) products they make us taste.

 

 

Now the colder season is arriving, their assortment changes towards more tasty products like funghi, chestnuts, wild meat, ecc. While going towards the end of the tour, we also arrived closer to the new buildings on Piazza Gae Aulenti where we finished with an aperitivo at RED by Feltrinelli. Another option is the Illy bar, on the same square. From there you have a perfect view over the recent skyscrapers and the Bosco Verticale, which is slowly turning into a golden tower thanks to the leaves getting autumn colors.

 

The next food tour will be this weekend, thanks to a booking through Curioseety, a platform that allows local guides to offer unique experiences. In case you plan to visit Milan for a weekend or more, then also consider to plan one day for activities outside the city. If you can drive a car, you might want to go to the neighboring region of Piemonte, where the grapes harvest, or vendemmia is at is peak season and where the first tartufi can be enjoyed. If you prefer to travel by train, then go to the hills north of Monza, enjoy a walk and then head for a lunch in one of the local restaurants that I am sure offer delicious plates of the season.

 

In case you stay in Milan and the weather allows it, have a picnic in the park, for example in Parco Sempione or Giardini Pubblici. Go to one of the supermarkets I visited last week during an inspiring food trip through Milan along ten (Italian) supermarkets and collect the stuff for a delicious Italian lunch.
